Best app for guitar I’ve ever used
This app is so easy to use and friendly. Best arpeggios! Highly recommend!
I love the new look and navigation. It makes the visuals so much more valuable. My favorite!
I was surprised to see the new look and features. This app has been my go to reference for years.
Been using this in my guitar journey and now that it’s updated i like that it makes the arpeggios easier to switch to different keys
I had this on my iPhone 6s and it worked. It will not load onto my new SE. it says to pay, but there is nowhere to pay. It shows a load circle, but it will not load. What is wrong. No place to complain so, bad review instead! Hey! Anyone out there??? I bought this with my prior iPhone. It will neither reload nor let me pay again.
Just got this app, and it is pretty intuitive though it would be great to have a users page that actually answers questions. Like, since the chord finder says it’s in standard tuning and there is an opportunity to change tunings, how do you find chords in different tunings using the chord finder? Why is there no diminished chord in the reference (that’s an easy one to include)? Themes are very ugly. But it is very useful for finding names for some of the interesting chords I come across. So it stays for now.
I’ve been using the free version for quite some time and was very very satisfied with that. Then I cut the tip of my index finger off and was looking for greater functionality from the app so I upgraded. Am very pleased. The app provides a wide variety of fingering so I’m able to locate a chord structure I can se without my index finger. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because I think there need to be a feature that allows you to keep the app active. Maybe that’ll happen in a future update????
You can’t hit play in the finder screen. It’s always greeted out no matter what I do.
it's great
I'm very disappointed. Tried quite a few of the odd chords I use and it never named any of them. I use Nutchords on my PC and is a much better app but apparently not available for iPad. Needs a lot bigger chord reference.
And it's probably my fault...but I wish I could flip the fretboard so the low E string is on top...I'm left handed (nothing special) but I learned by mirroring people..So easy for us...So I like to look at my chords the same way.Ive used programs that let you do that and it's 1000 times easier and more efficient for a person like me...it should ATLEAST be an option. Like...I want to have the fretboard set up like I'm looking at it....and please change the orange color.
You gotta get it!
This app, as many people have said, is by far the best and most comprehensive learning tool for guitarists out there. It allows you too look at many chords, triads, arpeggios and then relate them to the appropriate scales in all positions. I use it daily in jazz guitar studies. It's great. However, I hate the new version. It's way less intuitive than the previous version, and harder to read. Why did you mess with something that worked great? Give me back the old version!
I love the update. This app has been my 'go-to' for years. Thank you for your continued commitment to this application.
Please fix the sound feature... It is not working..
Been using this app for years. It was one of the first of its kind and it shows. The latest version update was in 2011 and it's such a shame for such a useful app. The icon is pixely, and so is the app itself. The sounds are very tinny and it lacks the ability to tune (a must for this kind of app).
App hasn't been updated in quite sometime. No landscape mode, very ssssllllllloooooooowwwwwwwwwww(iPhone5), scales and arpeggios only play 3 notes, alternate tunings lack baritone and chords show in standard tuning only. Waste of good money and my time.
Despite the reviews warnings about no sound on iPads I downloaded the app. I thought, mistakenly, that the issue would have been corrected by now. I was wrong. No sound. Everything else seems to work, so 3 stars for the layout.
I have used this on my iPhone 4 for several years and it is great. Recently bought an iPad with retinal display and put the app on it. Can not believe the difference. It still works perfectly on my iPhone. On the iPad, most features work except the reverse chord look up is so slow that it seems the iPad is locked up. I give it 5 stars for the iPhone and 0 stars for the iPad. Hope they fix it soon.
The app displays scales in whatever tuning you choose but not chords in the alternate tunings? Please add this!
I don't know why there are bad reviews. I've tried other guitar apps and this app is my go to app for investigating chords. One person says they use Guitar Toolkit and I find Guitarist's Reference a better choice. I have several guitar apps and I use this and a few other apps all the time.
..but how can you possibly have an app that touts itself as a complete guitar reference and NOT cover the blues scale is beyond comprehension. The free app covers it so I have to jump in and put of the paid app whenever I want to hit the blues side. You really should fix this oversight. Would have been a 4/5 but for this major miss.
Apple should implement new developer policy rules that states all developer must provide timely updates for their apps for a period of 5 years as a condition to receiving approval from apple for their app submittal to the app store. App extremely crash prone on ipad 3 with IOS 6.
Fantastic app in what it offers but have noticed with the recent update touch sensitivity on this app only is hit or miss. I love using it as a study tool but the loss of touch control can be frustrating because I constantly must restart app. If weren't for that I would give this app 5 stars.
Sounds work great on my new iphone 5 and ipad iOS6. This is the best app for guitarists. Completely brilliant. The must have app for any one playing a guitar. This app has it all and easy to use. I got the free All Guitar Chords and decide to get this. Well worth the money.
The chord sounding doesn't !
No sound on the tune!!! Just 6 fret to place your fingers on the reverse chord... And you cannot move the fret to make a barre. At this time the free APP is much better !!!
Ok so far, but have no sound don't really need it but some people might over all not to bad
Just fix the play back please, nothing happens when I click play
I think this is the best chord / scale reference app out there. I also love the reverse chord finder and custom tuning.
Good app, but inconvenient interface. I don't use portrait view at all. Your specs out to warn of that shortcoming.
Good
Very useful but badly needs a landscape support
Okay as a visual reference, though I prefer Guitar Toolkit, which I find to be a much better reference app even though it's not specifically designed for the iPad. But the fatal flaw for Guitarist's Reference is the huge delay between touching a string and hearing the sound/note. Makes it unusable. Hope this is fixed in a future update or this was just money wasted.
Wow!! I've been playing guitar for a number of years and this app has taught me so much within the one week I've had it about so many different chords I never would have gotten. To all those who want to buy the app, if you're a serious guitarist or guitar student, you'd focus on the great help you're getting and not silly things like landscape view... This is, hands down THE best guitar learning app out there.
The app contains lots of useful info and I've benefitted from it but hopefully in the next update they'll add: Landscape view for iPad Alternate tuning cords and scales If youre looking for these, don't purchase until ykou see they've been added in update notes...
Very nicely done. A guitarist reference resource with just about everything included.
Yeah it shows chords, scales and arpeggios in all keys. But what I don't like about this app is that there is some delay time from when you strike the note and when you hear it. I'm a bit disappointed that a $6 app has this flaw. It doesn't have settings for different guitar sounds either. That would have been nice. It do't think it's worth it. Especially because there are other apps that do the same for less.
I want my money back! It claims to support alternate tunings when in fact it does no more than acknowledge their existence. There is no support for the product either, if I could rate no stars, I would!
I tried their free apps and they seemed pretty good, but missed the sound feature. So I bought it, and the sound feature doesn't seem to work. I tried to go to the web site of maj9.com to look for assistance, but both links in iTunes, and entering the URL manually, just try to load iTunes to take you to one of these pages with no other information than the app advertisements. It has some really good features, but I recommend you stick with the free separate apps until they fix this one and provide some support for their product.
This App continues to get better and more useful. This gives you the ability to overlay a chords notes over a particular scale...highly useful for those trying to improvise solo's. Hands down...best guitar app out there!! Made by the same company as Guitar Chords app and Guitar Scales app....this combines both apps, provides the same graphics, a bit more functionality and much better layout. With both the Guitar Scales and Chords apps, you can only see 6 frets...GR let's you see 15 frets of the neck at once! This is another huge benefit when trying to visualize all the scale forms on the neck. FEATURE REQUEST: One thing that I haven't seen any apps provide are fingerings for slash chords, such as D/F# or Ab/A. Not quite sure how you could integrate that, but those chords appear quite a bit in music, but are almost altogether left out of all the apps, I've seen. That would be my only suggestion for now... FYI... I seem to enter into a loop when trying to access the developer page....goes to website, opens, iTunes, then brings me back to the App store.
This is the best designed and most useful of the many guitar apps I have found paid or free.
Needs landscape k
Good reference for a variety of chords and scales. However, it is missing the G major forms from the CAGED sequence. (The variations may be missing as well, just have not looked yet.) Would be nice to have a comparison mode to show how variations are built (or differ) from the basic form. I.e. to go from major to dominant 7th to major seventh to minor seventh...here are the four variants next to each other, based on the same form. Recommended, but these other features would add tremendously to the usefulness of this app.
This is a cool guitar app. The interface is nice and easy to use. The chords and diagrams with the sound all together is nice.
It has scales, chords and everything a guitarist could ask for. You can change the tuning which helps. I highly recommend from anyone interested in chord and scale structure for guitar.
This is a great reference tool for any serious guitarist. There is only one feature that could be added: a reverse scale lookup...the ability to tap in a few notes of your favorite riff and see what scales match. Other than that, this app does everything but write the songs for you.
I can use this app but I find it harder to use to just look up a chord, but ok for finding relative chords.
